Opener

Following the tradition of the first Mad Scientists ritual (Polarity Reversal) performed in the summer of 2000 the performance of Mr Lehrer's The Elements song has become something of a tradition. However, rather than expect Mr Chomondly-Squared to perform this duty each time we found an alternative with the wonderful software provided by Read Please Corporation. Using this software we were able to get the computer to sing Mr Lehrer's song in a style completely fitting of a mad science procedure.

Statement

Mr. Chomondly-Squared read a prepared statement. This is provided as a separate document to allow other mad scientific teams to perform the procedure for themselves.

Capture the Five Fluxes

With five scientists participating in the procedure each participant read from a prepared speech.

The speeches for the five fluxes can be found on the following links. They are provided as separate documents to allow other mad scientific teams to perform the procedure for themselves.

Create Opportunity Magnets

During this part of the procedure the five magnets, now containing the five fluxes, were placed in a circle on the floor. The magnets were placed in such a way as to ensure the participants were unable to tell which side of the magnet was the north pole and which side was the south pole. The intention here was to cause some difficulty in assembling the magnets to create an element of tension. Without knowing which pole was north or south the participants were faced with the possibility that the magnets would either snap together uncontrollably or repel each other completely..

This was performed five times, once for each participant. For each participant one person present was allocated to be their inquisitor. The instructions that follow were clearly displayed on the TV screen so that the inquisitor and participant were able to read the appropriate text while performing the actions described.

The circle was removed from the floor once this part was complete.

Collect Opportunities

In turn each participant stepped up to the table following the instructions below which were displayed on the TV screen.

Sum Up

It had been planned to fill this slot with a short summary by Professor Ventor describing what we had achieved, however, in the spirit of madness it was decided that this was a little superfluous. Instead Professor Ventor and Professor Theory took it upon themselves to sing Eric Idle's Galaxy Song. (We have also included a link on the References page to a study of the galaxy song to assure you of it's scientific credibility and hope that some that credibility may reflect on the Geometrical Pataphysical Laboratory.)

Seal containers

Each participant poured hot wax into their container to ensure that their opportunities are available whenever required in the future and to symbolise the fact that a change had taken place in each of us.

Close

Tom Lehrer's Elements was used to bring the procedure to a close, however in the spirit of true entertainment we decided to leave this performance to Mr Lehrer himself.
